Being S.O.R.A. Certified (Security Officer Registration Act) means you are compliant with the requirements needed to work in the State of New Jersey as a Security Officer.  S.O.R.A. is Governed by the New Jersey State Police, Private Detective Unit.

 

              *ALL SECURITY OFFICERS NEED TO BE SORA CERTIFIED

     

S.O.R.A. Requirements - A Security Officer must be at least 18 years of age. There can be NO criminal convictions of the first, second, third or fourth degree or convictions involving the use, possession of or sale of a controlled substance.

Other convictions may be disqualifying if the Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police determines that registration would be contrary to the public's interest. 

 

Once Approved - The Applicant will need to complete a SORA training program. It will include 24 hours of classroom instruction and will be taught by a certified SORA instructor. The training must be completed within 30 days of your application date.

 

Renewal - Registration is renewed biennially for unarmed certified officers and yearly for armed certified officers. Both are required to take an 8 hour re-certification class with a certified SORA instructor.
